Ballyshannon Musical Society came out with all guns blazing on Tuesday night as they presented Irving Berlin’s favourite ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ at the town’s Abbey Arts Centre.

For many, it is the highlight of the musical entertainment year in the Erne Town and this year they have come up trumps again. It is the first time in 33 years that the society has hosted ‘Annie Get Your Gun’, when it played to packed audience in the then ‘New Mercy Hall’. Annie was then played by Pattie Plunkeet. This time around it is the vocal dexterity of rising talent Farah Bogle as Annie and lead man, Rory Fallon from Bundoran.

Ironically Wild ‘Bill’ Hickok is played by current Mayor of Ballyshannon Cllr Brendan Travers, fresh from his party’s celebrations at the St John Bosco Centre at the weekend.

Others who also turn in a fine performance include John MacNeill, Moya Ferguson and Michael McLoone Jnr.

Set in turn of the Century America, the musical tells how Annie Oakley and Frank Butler meet when she beats him in a sharpshooting contest at Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. The two then have to negotiate between their competitive sides and their blossoming love for each other.

This year’s show introduces a wonderful cast with many new and talented first timers as well as some of our seasoned performers from a hinterland that extends from Bundoran to Belleek and Cashelard.

This light-hearted family show with old favourites like ‘There’s No Business like Show Business’ and ‘Anything You Can Do’ will be sure to brighten up everyone’s spirits after the long slumbers of the winter.

Directed by master of the boards herself, Maura Logue, with a safe pair of hands in the guise of the equally talented Musical Director, Niamh Currid, Choreographer, Suzanne Byrne heads up a team that once again serve up a lively and memorable experience.

Book now at the Abbey Centre from 1-4pm on (071) 9851375. The musical runs until this Saturday, March 5.
