Council returns for clean-up
Donegal County Council waste enforcement officers arrived at a house in Stranorlar yesterday to begin clean-up operations, following complaints from local people.
A statement issued yesterday by the council said the work was "being done in line with the council's powers and functions under the Waste Management Act. As this matter is the subject of ongoing investigation and may be subject to further action, it would be inappropriate for the council to make any further statement at this time."
The story drew national attention earlier this month when the Sunday World newspaper covered the ongoing situation. According to media reports, this was the second time in recent years that there has been a clean-up operation at the house. The council was reported to have removed what was believed to be two tons of rubbish from outside the house last year.
The clean-up was undertaken yesterday when the rubbish had again begun to pile up at the Stranorlar property.
