Extension to Drumkeen school approved
Approval has been confirmed for a substantial upgrade to Scoil Phdraig National School in Drumkeen.
An 80 square metres mainstream classroom will be built to replace an existing rented prefab while a learning support/resource room consisting of 16 square metres will also be developed on-site.
The approval was confirmed last week by the Tnaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan TD She said the announcement will be a very welcome boost to the school which is very much at the heart of the local community.
"I'm aware of the excellent work which is being carried out at Scoil Phdraig on so many levels. I'm delighted to have been in a position to deliver this news to the Board of Management, the principal, his staff and the pupils and their families," she said.
"This will be a huge addition to the existing infrastructure and will provide staff and pupils alike, with the best possible environment in which to learn and work."
Her party colleague, Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP has welcomed the news as has Fianna Fail Senator, Brian 'Domhnaill. "This is great news for the pupils and staff at St Patrick's who have waited a long time for these teaching facilities," Senator 'Domhnaill said.
"I have worked with the school's management to secure this much needed investment. I am delighted to have made representations on the their behalf, and I wish to thank An Tnaiste for granting the funding."
