Democrat journalist tops the charts"
They have all tried, all mounted their sophisticated marketing blitzes but one Donegal journalist who has his finger on the pulse of what matters in Donegal and has pipped them all to the top of the charts with his entertaining and informative book about the lifeblood of Donegal - sport.
Matt Cardle went on the X-Factor, the Rubberbandits went on the Late Late Show and held press conferences outside the Dail but Ciaran O'Donnell, the Donegal Democrat's deputy editor put all his focus into one great read which documents many of the county's greatest sporting heroes and his formula has proved a winner.
"Donegal Sporting Heroes" has been such a success story that there are very few copies left and the popular Letterkenny man is already organising a second print in the New Year.
"I am delighted at the positive response that it has enjoyed - we printed 1,200 copies and the last hundred of those were distributed to various outlets in Donegal last week.
"Proceeds from the book will be shared by two children's charities - the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund and Barretstown Castle "Hole in the Wall gang" in Co Kildare and it's a decision I'm so glad to have made. I believe the charity element certainly added a whole new dynamic to the book."
The popular Letterkenny journalist who is known to spend many hours pounding the roads of Donegal in his own athletic pursuits spent hundreds of hours putting the book together.
"Writing a book about ten of Donegal's finest sports people was a great experience.Their honesty, commitment and dedication is truly inspirational."
"Donegal Sporting Greats" which also includes over 100 photographs is still on sale in all leading newsagents and bookshops and additional copies will be available in the New Year.
