Full Capacity Protocol implemented at Letterkenny University Hospital

Letterkenny University Hospital

The emergency department at Letterkenny University Hospital was reported to be extremely busy this morning, with significant numbers of patients awaiting admission to hospital.
Hospital management is advising people attending the emergency department that they can expect delays, the Saolta University Health Care Group has reported.
The Full Capacity Protocol has again been implemented and all efforts continue to be made to identify patients who are appropriate for discharge, the health care group said in a statement issued today. Letterkenny University Hospital is a member of Saolta.
Management is also encouraging the public to attend the emergency department only in the case of real emergencies, and to contact their GP or GP out-of-hours service in the first instance.
Letterkenny University Hospital again apologises to all patients and their families for any distress caused as a result of these delays, Saolta said in the statement.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation's "Trolley Watch" for Thursday, November 10th, has reported that 24 patients were on trolleys at Letterkenny University Hospital and three patients on trolleys at Sligo University Hospital.
