Francis Gallagher who passed away this week was a popular member of Ballyshannon Brass & Reed Band for more than 50 years.
The Gallagher family have a long and proud association with the town band stretching back to their father Willie who played the side-drum in earlier days.
Francis, like many members of the family, was gifted in percussion and proudly played the side-drum just like his father before him.
Four Gallagher brothers - Eddie, Packie, Francis and Tom - played in the band and subsequent generations of the family also contributed to the band.
Tom Gallagher, who still plays in the band, has given over 70 years' service and is the longest playing member since the band was formed in 1899.
Ballyshannon Brass and Reed Band reformed specially to play at Francis’ funeral. All the band members offer their sympathy to his wife Flossie, son Frankie, daughters Janet and Lisa and their wide family circle.
