Dunleavy’s XL store at the Ardglass crossroads in Portsalon has taken the coveted title of XL Store of the Year 2011 at the national awards, held recently at the Mullingar Park Hotel, Co. Westmeath.

The store, run by Nigel Carr, also picked up the award for Best Off-Licence, sponsored by BWG Wines & Spirits.

Opened in July 2010, Dunleavy’s XL has a specially designed off-licence department, offering customers a variety of products in wine, spirits and beer, which, as part of the shop’s development, has helped it secure the category award of ‘Best Off Licence’.

Customer service is a big focus in this store, providing a very friendly and inviting place for people to shop. By doing so, the staff have not only maintained a regular customer base, but have now started to attract customers from other areas. Dunleavy’s XL offers a full range of services for their customers and for the second year in a row has also won a Category award in the XL Store of the year awards.

Retailers who achieve a Store of the Year Award must comply with a strict set of criteria which involves stores being rigorously assessed by a mystery shopper. This year over 150 stores from across the country took part in the awards programme.

The Awards, now in their third year, seek to promote and reward high standards in retailing and the evening reception saw 23 separate category winners.

y independent retailers, there are 189 XL neighbourhood stores in 24 counties across Ireland, providing employment to approximately 2,000 people across the country.
