Nine of Donegal’s top eateries are set to battle for top national honours in the Irish Restaurant awards which will be announced next month.
The nine Donegal restaurants celebrated success at the Ulster Regional Irish Restaurant Awards recently, and will now go on to represent their county for the national titles at the All-Ireland at Santa Rita/ LIFE Magazine Irish Restaurant Awards 2013.
The event takes place in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin on June 10.
Eight well-known restaurants are nominated across a range of categories and Dunfanaghy’s Derek Alcorn of the The Mill Restaurant, is nominated in the best chef category.
Nominated in the best customer service Award is The Beach House in Buncrana. The Village Tavern in Mountcharles is nominated in the Faustino Best Gastro Pub in Ireland Award. The Joseph Drouhin Best Casual Dining in Ireland Award features Aroma in Donegal Town. Dunkineely’s Castle Murray House Hotel is in for the Pallas Foods Best Hotel Restaurant Award. Harry’s Restaurant in Bridgend is in the best restaurant section. Harvey’s Point is nominated in the section for engaging with “The Gathering”, while Sargasso is up for the Bord Bia Just Ask! Award. Letterkenny’s The Lemon Tree is nominated best “kids me” section.
Speaking of the upcoming awards, Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins said; “In their fifth year now, the Irish Restaurant Awards continue to go from strength to strength. Each year, the awards cast a spotlight on the brightest and best players on the island’s restaurant scene. The Irish Restaurant Awards are the awards everyone wants to win. This year the nominations went online for the first time and we got a spectacular response from the public- nominations doubled and we received 10,000 votes for whole island of Ireland’s favourite restaurants, chefs, gastro pubs, hotel restaurants and customer service experience.
