This newspaper has exclusively learned that the Donegal Live Committee in Donegal Town have agreed contracts with one of the most successful X-Factor winners in recent times.
Akexandra Burke sprang to fame after winning the fifth series of the X-Factor in 2008 and immediately released her debut single ‘Hallelujah’ which became the European record holder for singles sales over a period of 24 hours selling 105,000 copies in 24 hours.
It also became the top selling record of the year in the UK and also gained the coveted No. 1 Christmas slot.
Burke has enjoyed continued success since her X-Factor win unlike many who have gone before her. She has had successful albums and world tours and is all set to release her new album this year.
She said, “It’s going to be sexy so I’m going to get a lot fiercer and sexier. We’re just getting down and dirty with the next album - I’m going to take a lot more risks and it’s going to be pretty insane.”
She also hinted at collaborations on the album but said, “I can’t say too much because my management would kill me if I let loose.
“I do have a very special duet planned and have all the ideas in my head - its all locked up there for the moment in time.”
Alexandra will kickstart the Donegal showcase on Friday 25th. May to be followed by Goats Don’t Shave and the Sawdoctors on the Saturday and Sunday nights.
Ernan McGettigan, Chairperson of the Donegal Live Committee said, “Things are beginning to come together and this event is shaping up to be one of the best events that Donegal Town has ever staged - our objective from the outset was to showcase the whole county in the very best light and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that this happens.
“There will be something for everybody during these three days and I would like to stress that this is a Co. Donegal Showcase, not a Donegal Town Festival.
“I would strongly urge operators from all parts of the county to come along and show the world that we have a truly great county and by working together. we can make serious inroads into the tourism market both domestic and international.”
With top acts like The Kaiser Chiefs and the Happy Mondays confirmed for Bundoran, Horslips, former Rolling Stones member Mick Taylor and his Band, Dr. Feelgood, Mama’s Boys all confirmed for Ballyshannon its looking that Donegal will be the festival capital of Ireland this year.
And there’s still more to come !
