“Dueling Divas”, an evening of well-known operatic and popular music, is on this weekend to benefit North West Opera. The show is on at 8.30 pm, Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey.

“Dueling Divas” actually features two sopranos and two tenors in a madcap comedy about a tenor down on his luck, two divas who are feisty foes and an impresario trying to cast a show. The story is original, but the music will be familiar.

“What we’ve done is taken numbers people would know -- the greatest hits,” said Ann Jennings, professional soprano and founder of North West Opera. Ann will be joined in “Dueling Divas” by German soprano Elizabeth Goell, who lives in Ireland’s northwest; and tenors John Porter from Lifford and David Robertson from Enniskillen. The regional opera company staged La Bohème in Donegal and Derry last autumn and will bring the classic opera Carmen to Donegal this year as part of the Donegal Bay and Bluestacks Festival. Tickets for “Dueling Divas” are available at the Balor box office, 074 91 31840.
