There’s a huge benefit gig on in The Plaza, Buncrana this Saturday at 9.30pm.
Dubbed Plaza For Gaza, the night is inspired by Buncrana man John Cutliffe whose online reports from St Joseph’s Hospital in Jerusalem on the Gaza crisis inspired many people in Donegal to get behind the event.
The line up, featuring a mixture of homegrown and international artists from the world of rock, jazz, folk, traditional music and dance, is so extensive you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s the programme for a weekend festival rather than just one night.
Jazz and blues singer Honor Heffernan heads a bill that includes Palestinian singer Samira Kharoubi, Lady & the Ladyboys (featuring John Cutliffe, Keenan Barrett, Laurence Doherty and Sean McCarron), Kevin Doherty from Four Men & A Dog, alternative rockers Don’t Fear The Natives, the excellently named Trad Against The Machine, local dance crew Studio 47 and much much more.
Admission is €10 with the proceeds donated to hospitals caring for children injured in the recent Gaza conflict. Tickets are available at a host of local Buncrana outlets.
An account has been opened at Buncrana Credit Union for those who wish to contribute. For more event information there’s a facebook page – www.facebook.com/plazaforgaza.
