Dungloe woman Jacqui Sharkey and Justin McGurk will play The Alley Theatre, Strabane on Friday 7th March in a special concert.
Donegal based singer/songwriter Jacqui Sharkey’s debut album, ‘A New Dawn’, has received critical acclaim in Ireland and abroad since its release in 2011. Her style has been described as a blend of Americana, Folk and New Country, with a hint of Jazz/pop in Jacqui’s self-composed songs.
2012 saw her perform as Special Guest of recording artist Billy Ocean at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, and in her own solo concert in the same venue when she celebrated the music of Canadian Recording Artist Anne Murray with the endorsement of Anne Murray herself. Jacqui has just completed her second album after a successful year, including a sell out tour with the Phil Mack TV show.
Songwriter Paul Brady has described Jacqui Sharkey’s voice as being ‘Her warm and tender voice brings me straight to one of my favourite places...Donegal. Whether she applies it to Folk, New Country or Jazz, the spirit of her home place comes through the gorgeous sound she makes. “
Justin McGurk is a successful singer/songwriter from Cookstown with an impressive nine albums to date. In the past, he has shared the stage with a number of Nashville’s finest and has toured with Hal Ketchum, Collin Raye & Nanci Griffiths, to name but a few. In 2012, his song “If I could take your place” was the worthy winner of best song at the N.I. Country music awards. Such was the impact of the song that RTE 1’s Nationwide did a special feature on how the song came to be written.
“Get the party started” is the title track from his newly released ninth album, and it is proving equally as popular. Justin’s songs have been described as “Cool country with an edge; blending the old, the new and the unexplored.” Come along and experience the new sound of Country music with its pop and rock overtones.
