This is the photograph that captured the hearts and minds of a panel of adjudicators in an Údarás na Gaeltachta photographic competition.

The winning photograph, ‘Magic Place’ was sent in by Lukasz Szymanski.

Údarás na Gaeltachta recently ran a photo competition called ‘Is álainn í an Ghaeltacht’ to promote the Gaeltacht as an ideal place to live, work, do business and as a holiday destination.

The competition inspired many people to take pictures of their stunning locality. There was plenty of scope for the imagination as many of the pictures that were sent into the competition were awe inspiring, creative and different. The adjudicators said they were hugely impressed by the quality of the images received.

The competition proved a huge success with many people vying for the coveted first place.

The photograph by Lukasz Szymanski gives us a ‘súil eile’ view of the Donegal Gaeltacht. The photographer grasped the opportunity to capture the beauty and landscape that is viewed by the skydivers during a dive to the ground in the Donegal Gaeltacht.

A photograph by Matt Nolan ‘Ag fanact ar an bhfarraige’ took second place. The photograph depicts a moment of peace, tranquillity and reflectiveness against the beautiful backdrop that is Inis Meáin, one of Aran Islands. It depicts the tradition, heritage and landscape that can be experienced on a Gaeltacht Island.

Toraigh na mBeann” by Aidan Mac Fhionnlaoich won third prize, the photograph illustrates the experience and beauty of a climb on a cliff-face on Toraigh island.
