Get sorted for the switchover with Sky!

The words ‘Digital Switchover’ are on everyone’s lips at the moment, but many people don’t realise that there are a number of options available to them when the analogue signal is switched off on 24th October and Ireland’s TV service goes digital.

The words ‘Digital Switchover’ are on everyone’s lips at the moment, but many people don’t realise that there are a number of options available to them when the analogue signal is switched off on 24th October and Ireland’s TV service goes digital.

Sky has been providing digital television in Ireland since 1999 and with an estimated 40% of all Irish households already subscribing to Sky, getting it installed is a relatively simple process. A satellite dish is installed on your home from which a cable connects it to a Sky+ Box in the room of your choice. This box is then connected to the television: it’s that simple!

Customers then have access to all their favourite Irish terrestrial channels and much more. The basic package – the Entertainment Pack – has 39 channels and comes in at €25 per month. It includes RTÉ One, RTÉ Two, TV3, 3e, TG4, BBC and Channel 4, as well as Sky One, Sky Living, Sky Atlantic, Sky News, Sky Arts, Comedy Central, MTV and Dave. In addition, because Sky customers have a satellite dish, they can receive over 200 free-to-air channels. The Entertainment Extra package (€33 per month) includes an additional 51 channels such as the History channels, National Geographic, music channels, children’s channels and the Discovery channels. The Sky+ box itself brings even more benefits – essentially it’s a hard drive which allows customers to pause live television, so it’s handy if the phone rings during your favourite show as there’s no need to miss a thing! The box can also be set to record every single episode of a show, and can store up to 185 hours of programmes at a time, which can simply be deleted when viewed.

Mark Anderson of Sky Ireland says, “Sky makes the switch to digital as simple as possible with our hassle free installation. What’s more, in addition to their favourite Irish channels customers will receive loads more channels, and at the same time know that they have access to 24/7 customer service. Clearly the more information people have now about their options for the digital switch, the better equipped they’ll be to make the right choice for them.”
