There’s only five shows remaining in this year’s Christmas pantomime, Robin Hoodwinked, at The Balor Arts Centre Ballybofey. This year Robin Hoodwinked is getting the Balor treatment with all the usual fun and surprises and it’s going down a storm with young and old alike.
Margaret O’Neill plays the title role of Robin Hood who returns to claim the (rather hairy) hand of the fair Maid Marion (Ken Lillis) only to find her engaged to the dastardly Sheriff. The Sheriff, played by bad guy extraordinaire Liam Breen, is rather unwilling but is under threat of death to marry or else.
Meanwhile King John (Cathal Patton), much like our own government, is taxing the people to the hilt so Robin Hood and the Merry Men decide to rob the rich and give to the poor. Enter Sir Guy of Gisbourne (JC Bonar) to fight with the Merry Men.
Back at the Castle Funny Ha Ha the Court Jester (Paddy McMenamin) is in love with Honey He Ho (Niamh McMenamin) but he just can’t seem to get it right and ends up proposing to the Veiled Lady (Kathleen McMenamin). There’s the cake to be made for the wedding but with Maid Marion and an inebriated Sheriff and King John, things get a bit messy. The Merry Men, Michael Duffy and Patrick McMenamin along with Little Joan (Mary Laverty), Friar Tuck (Eddie Mulligan) and the outrageous Will Scarlet (Gordon Lucas) all add to the mayhem.
There’s a plot to die for, jokes galore, a host of songs and dancing coutesy of the Ladies In Waiting and a fine talented chorus. So come along with all the family and have a great night out. It’s filling up fast but there are still seats remaining so don’t leave it too late.
There’s a 4pm showing today, Sunday December 4, and then there’s 8pm shows from Tuesday 6 to the finale on Friday 9. Prices have been kept low once again with a family of 4 ticket just €30. You can book at The Balor Box Office on (074) 9131840.
