Ewe wouldn’t believe it if you didn’t see it!

Sheep in Ireland usually wind up as handsome sweaters or if they are really unlucky, as tasty lamb chops.

Sheep in Ireland usually wind up as handsome sweaters or if they are really unlucky, as tasty lamb chops.

But, for a few special Donegal Sheep willing to undergo advanced training and who are fleet of hoof and have the proverbial eye of the tiger, there is another option - a way of being something of a ‘black sheep’, of living on the wild side.

Because, every Donegal sheep secretly dreams of being crowned Champion of the Sheep Grand National at Leghowney!

Preparations are in the final stages for this Saturday’s Sheep Racing Extravaganza in Leghowney.

The track has been inspected and the going has been declared as being “soft” - just perfect for another exciting race meeting.

First race off at 1.30 sharp, so come in plenty of time to see the sheep in the parade ring.

The six sheep races will guarantee a smile on your face and hopefully nobody will be fleeced. A booklet containing a full list of sheep and owners will be given to everybody on entry to enable punters to study the form and hopefully pick a winner!

On the day there will be many activities for children, all of which are free, including bouncy castles, ball trailer, gladiators and face painting. Other events include paint-balling, guess the weight of the sheep, nearest the pin and many more.

Johnny Patterson will be there on the day to demonstrate his expertise in Sheep Shearing. The BBQ will be smoking all day and the Leghowney Country Market bakers will be providing freshly baked scones for afternoon tea. Ice-cream and other refreshments will also be available. This is only a section of what will be available on the day and there will be many other attractions but you will just have to see for yourself!

Save the date in your phones, diaries, calendars and heads and be sure to come along.

Follow the signs from the N15 between Barnesmore Gap and Donegal Town and you won’t miss us.

It’s a great day out for all the family so please come along and enjoy the day!
