Family and friends from the Rosses flew up from Donegal airport to be present for a private birthday to celebrate Enya’s 50th last weekend. The famously private singer hosted the event at her plush Manderley Castle in Killiney, Co Dublin, on Saturday night.
The birthday party which was just for friends and family was heavily guarded by security during the evenings festivities at her home. The Donegal singer purchased the castle, formerly known as Ayesha Castle in 1997 and renamed it Manderley after the fictional residence in the Daphne du Maurier novel, ‘Rebecca’.
Her father Leo Brennan and other family members were in attendance. The singer, who has sold a staggering 75 million albums worldwide and is worth an estimated €94m turned 50 on Tuesday last, but opted to celebrate her birthday at the weekend. She was surprised by the arrival of her younger sister, Olive, from Australia. Enya has won four Grammy awards and an Oscar nomination. The Irish singer is Ireland’s best selling solo performer and is the country’s second biggest export behind U2.
“Most of the family went up for the bash. Enya has been planning the party for months and the family were really looking forward to it,” says an insider on the party.
Enya has performed works in 10 language including Japanese, French and even Elvish from Lord of the Rings.
It emerged days ago that Enya was considering playing a series of rare live concerts to mark the release of her eighth album.
