Teachers from the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy of north-west Ireland were in Gaoth Dobhair recently for a training session.

Angela Gallagher, principal of the academy, said the academy “is not so much built on finding ‘stars’, but on developing self-confidence.”

The drama teachers workshopped some of the exercises for the academy, from mimes to music to what Angela called “verbal dynamics”, a choral speaking piece.

The drama academy runs classes in Falcarragh, Dore, Letterkenny, Ramelton and Killybegs, and can also run programmes through playschools and schools, or on a private basis. The school takes children between the ages of 5 and 12, and also has a pre-school programme for children from 3 to 5 years old.

“That’s becoming so much more important these days - the ability to communicate and the ability to express yourself,” Angela said. “I think that is going to become crucial in the next few years.”

Places are still available in most classes for children from 5-12, Angela said. For more information contact 074 9558100.
