Top live acts set for Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues 2012

Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues Festival 2012 will celebrate its fifth year with four days of world renowned local, national and international acts playing on ten different stages throughout the village.

As usual this year’s festival will feature a series of free live gigs from 34 bands.

On Thursday 13th, The Jeremy Wallace Trio will open the festival in Roses Bar, Cresslough along with Mark Black Band in the Oyster Bar, Dunfanaghy. Returning acts include Miranda Rosenberg, Rab McCullough, The Lee Hedley Band and Grainne Duffy. New to this year’s festival we have Shawn Jones fresh from supporting BB King and up and coming Sligo band ‘Odd Socks Revival’ to name but a few. Johnny Gallagher and the Boxtie Band along with the popular Derry soul outfit Portabello will close the festival on Sunday night.

There will be an open mike session on Saturday afternoon in The Workhouse for young people to perform hosted by local musician Kloe Humm.

Over the weekend we would also like to give children the opportunity to take part in our photography competition, just call into the Information kiosk in the square for further details. All winning photos will be put up on the website at the end of this year’s festival. Festival t-shirts will also be available to purchase at the Information kiosk, The Workhouse, Muck and Muffins and Jaws Watersports with all proceeds going towards the running of the festival.

The festival committee would like to thank Fintan Moloney and Co for sponsoring the festival for the fifth year.

Events on Friday the 14th gets underway with the Met Quartet playing in the Oyster from 5pm and from 8pm is DD and The Delta Boys, from 11.30pm until close there is the Lee Hedley Band. The Jeremy Wallace Trio will play in Patsy Dan’s Bar from 6pm and the Hickory Wind Band will play in Patsy Dan’s from 9.30pm . In Killyhoey Beach Marquee from 8pm there is Shawn Jones (Solo) and from 10.30pm until close there is the Rob McCullough Band. Daylight Wobbly play in Muck’n’Muffins from 8pm to 10pm and The Odd Socks Revival play in Arnolds Hotel from 11pm to close.

In the Oyster Marquee The Alan McElvey Band play from 9.00pm until 11pm and Grainne Duffy plays from 12 midnight to close. Saturday the 15th from 11am to 2pm sees The Party on the Beach including a Sandcastle Building World Record Attempt and music. In Arnolds Hotel The Bourbon Swing Band play from 3pm, DD and the Delta Boys play from 6.30pm, the Grainne Duffy Band plays from 10.30pm and the Maeve Dunphy Band play from 11.30pm until close. In the Killyhooey Beach Marquee Mirenda Rosenberg plays from 4pm. The Shawn Jones Band plays from 7pm and the Lee Hedley band plays from 11pm until close. The High Heeled Converse play in Muck’n’Muffins at 6.30pm.

In the Oyster Marquee The Paul Casey Band plays are at 4pm, the Beekeepers play from 8.30pm and the Mirenda Rosenberg Band plays from 12 midnight to close. In the Oyster The Met Quartet plays from 3pm, the Hickory Wind Band plays at 7pm and Odd Socks Revival plays from 10.30pm until close. In Patsy Dans Bar MC Jazz featuring Leila plays from 3pm to 5pm, The Jefferies at 7.30pm and the Mark Braidner Band at 11.30pm until close. In Roonies The Jeremy Wallace Trio plays from 5pm and The Balken Allen Band plays from 9pm.

Open Mike Session

The Workhouse plays host to Kloe Humm & Kids Open Mike Session from 3pm and Bluesy Quattro play from 5pm. The Cove Restaurant plays host to Doghouse from 3pm to 5.30pm and the Paul Casey Duo is in Starfish from 7.30pm. Sunday the 16th starts with Paul Buckley (Solo) in the Workhouse from 12.30pm and MC Jazz with Sean Sweeney is from 3pm.

In The Killyhoey Beach Marquee The John Trotter Trio is on from 2.30pm, The Men who Knew Too Much are on from 5.30pm and Johnny Gallagher and the Boxtie Band are at 9.30pm.

In Arnolds Hotel from 1pm there is The Men in Black with Jim McDermott, Mark Braidner from 3.30pm and the Mark Black Band from 8.30pm. The Oyster Bar sees the Lee Hedley Acoustic Sest from 2pm, Shawn Jones is on from 5pm, Mark Braidner Band from 8.00pm and Copperhead Rose is on from 11pm to close. In The Oyster Marquee sees Vintage on from 3pm and the Maeve Dunphy Band is on from 6pm. Patsy Dan’s Bar sees Doghouse from 2.30pm, Daylight Wobbly from 5.30pm and the Paul Buckley Band from 6pm until 8pm. Roonies Nite Club sees Portobello from 11.30pm until close.
