Reeling in the Years - Bundoran’s History of Cinema
Photo (courtesy E Travers) shows Bracey Daniels, Pioneer of Irish cinema, with his traveling film show outside Hamilton Hall, Bundoran. Bracey started travelling around Ireland in 1908 with his mobile cinema and became a well-known figure in Irish cinema history. He is buried at the Rock Cemetery in Ballyshannon.
Did you go on your first date with your husband of 50 years to the movies? Or did you bring your new girlfriend last week? What was the first film you ever went to see? Was your heart stolen by James Dean or Jimmy Stewart? Were you terrified by Jaws, or thrilled by Star Wars? Do you remember the days when films were heavily censored? Or when the travelling cinema came to town? Maybe your parents told you their own tales of going to see the classics…
See You at the Pictures! is a new documentary from Planet Korda Pictures for RTE. The film-makers are coming to Bundoran in the last week of September and they are looking for your stories and memories to share.
They want to chat with people about their experiences of cinema-going in Ireland, and want to hear stories from across the decades and about all kinds of films.
Please write your letters, send emails or upload your videos to their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/See-You-at-the-Pictures/195351740545756
Email stories/anecdotes to: stories@planetkorda.com or post them to: Stories, Planet Korda Pictures, Irish Film Institute, 6 Eustace Street, Dublin 2. Alternatively, contact Tracy Ferguson, Bundoran Town Council: tferguson@donegalcoco.ie.
