The biggest soapbox challenge in the North West is back this Sunday, September 9, as Pettigo prepares to stage its third annual Wacky Races Soapbox Races. With €500 in prizes, there’s lots of great reasons to get creative this weekend.

Huge crowds enjoyed the event last year and the year before. The organisers, Borderline Players, hope that this year’s event will be equally successful and build upon entry levels of the previous competitions. All proceeds from the day will be donated to St Mary’s National School, Pettigo.

The races are open to all ages and competitions on the day will be categorised in age groupings. The age categories are 10 years & under, 11 - 16 years, and 16 years & over. The event has seen everything from racing beer barrels and stilettos to Postman Pat vans, with special awards for the most innovative designs.

The Wacky Races will be take place once again at Mulnagoad Pettigo, more commonly referred to as Brittons of The Cross. Starting at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Entrants are asked to have their vehicles on-site for inspection at 1:30pm.

There will also be lots of attractions for all the family, with bouncy castles and face painting for younger visitors, car boot sales with some great bargains, and an animal auction which is sure to be great fun for the bigger kids - so come prepared!
