Mens Health Day in Letterkenny

A Men’s Health Information Day will take place in the Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny on Saturday next, June 16 between 1pm and 5pm. Speaking on behalf of DLDC, Garvan Connolly stated: “This is an excellent opportunity for men to take a bit of time out of their day, come along and get free information and advice on how they can improve their health and wellbeing”.

The Marie Keating Foundation Mobile Unit will be in attendance and there will be information stands from many local organisations/agencies with a focus on men’s health including: General health checks, Heart problems, Stress related issues, Drugs/Alcohol use, Diabetes, Mental health issues, Smoking cessation information and much more. Other supports will be available on the day include Complimentary Therapies, the April Face Aging Camera which shows the effect of smoking, (this smoking cessation tool takes a photo of you at present then shows how you age in 20 years if you continue to smoke)

Road Safety packs will be provided by the Road Safety Authority. Civil Defence will provide a First Aid demonstration on what to do in an emergency. Information on Safe Talk and ASSIST, budgeting information from MABS, the Images of men Exhibition and other PowerPoint displays on self help programmes will also be presented at the event. They also have a free draw on the day with the following prizes; Advanced Driving Lesson sponsored by Swilly Drive School of Motoring, A Year’s Subscription of the dealer free ads paper sponsored by the Dealer, Free passes to the Aura Leisure Complex Letterkenny as well as complimentary cinema tickets to Century Cinemas.

Men are also invited to avail of a variety of Free Health Checks on the day kindly sponsored by the following Chemists: McFadden’s Pharmacy, Oldtown Road and Letterkenny Shopping Centre, Boots Chemist at Market Square, Magee’s on Main Street, O’Donnell’s Pharmacy, Courtyard Shopping Centre, Neary’s Pharmacy on Pearce Road, Ruth’s Chemist on High Road, Glencar Pharmacy on Circular Road and Healthwise on Ballyraine Road. If you are in Letterkenny on Saturday next just call into any of the chemists with the notice displayed and avail of a free Health Check. The specifics of the checks varies between chemists.

Men of all ages and abilities are invited to avail of the opportunity of this event to get information, advice or just to meet our volunteers and give them suggestions or ideas on how health service providers can encourage men to become more health conscious. This event focuses on men’s health services, however, it is open to the public.This event is being organised by the Men’s Development Network in association with Donegal Local Development Company Ltd and Letterkenny C.D.P. Ltd. This day is funded by Donegal Local Development Company Ltd under the Local & Community Development Programme.
