10KM Run Towards €30K Goal

It’s time to get your running shoes on for Donegal Hospice. Hundreds of runners and walkers are expected to converge on Dungloe on Sunday 24th June for the inaugural Kavanagh’s SuperValu 10km Circuit of West Donegal.

As part of their 2012 “Help us to Help Others” campaign Kavanagh’s SuperValu staff, customers and members of the public from as far as Inishowen will be taking to the roads next Sunday 24th June, starting off at the Maghery Community Centre at 12.30pm.

Manager of Kavanagh’s SuperValu Dungloe, Liam McShea says, “the Dungloe 10km wasn’t going ahead this year, however we stepped in and have taken the event over as part of our “Help Us to Help Others” campaign. We hope it will be an annual event and plans are to include it on the Donegal Grand Prix calendar in 2013. This year we are pushing ourselves to new limits in our quest to raise €30,000 for the Donegal Hospice and this 10km will help us reach that goal. So we are calling on elite athletes, fun runners and novices to come along. You can also walk the route.”

Anyone interested in taking part can pre-register in-store now or come along on the day from 10.30am at Maghery Community Center. The registration fee is €10 which includes a well-earned barbeque and family fun day afterwards.

In 2011 Kavanagh’s SuperValu Donegal was the largest donor of the Donegal Hospice with a massive €41,000 raised in just six months. Their innovative “Help us to Help Others” campaign developed by store managers set new records for the charity and on the back of its success last year, it’s back and is expected to be bigger and better than ever.

With four stores throughout Donegal - Ballybofey, Buncrana, Donegal Town and Dungloe - the Kavanagh Group will make a donation to the Donegal Hospice with every Real Rewards swipe by customers from now until October 2012.

Simultaneously, managers and staff in all four stores will undertake a series of novel fundraising events engaging their customers and communities along the way.
