The pop music phenomenon Jedward -- identical Dublin twins John and Edward Grimes -- drew about 2,000 people to the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny last Thursday for a concert double-header.

The lads have made personal appearances in the town before, but the concerts drew die-hard fans who queued at the hotel throughout the day for the two shows, held at 4 pm and 8.30 pm.

“The queue was massive when I got in at 9,” said Carolynne Harrison, sales and marketing manager for the Mount Errigal Hotel. She said people began queuing at about 5 o’clock Thursday morning.

“We sold out the two concerts, no problem,” Carolynne said. “It was just flat out.

“They have real dedicated fans,” she said.

The energetic duo drew fans from around Ireland and from one end of Donegal to the other. The Mount Errigal even hosted concert-goers who had flown in especially for the show from Liverpool, Spain, Iceland and Sweden.

The hotel was fully booked, and the concert crowds would also have benefited the larger business community as well, Carolynne said.

“I’m sure all the local businesses would have benefitted,” she said. “The majority of people would have stayed one or two nights, and ate locally and did a bit of shopping.”

Jedward have released three albums and eight singles, including “Lipstick”, their 2011 Eurovision song, and “Waterline”, the song they brought to the Eurovision song competition earlier this year.

Carolynne got to meet the Grimes brothers last week. “They’re lovely,” she said. “They seemed to be quite tired because they had two shows to do, but they were full of energy and really happy.

“They’re two lovely boys,” she said, adding that there were no “diva requests” for anything special from either of the young stars. “They’re quite easy-going,” Carolynne said.

The Mount Errigal has another big weekend in September, a country weekend with Nathan Carter that has already sold more than 500 tickets. The Radisson Blu Hotel in Letterkenny has agreed to take the guest overflow.

“We’re always trying to bring big acts to the town,” Carolynne said.
