Henry Girls off on US tour

The Henry Girls and The Fox Hunt

The Henry Girls and The Fox Hunt

One of Donegal’s best-known bands, The Henry Girls, kicked off their eleven date tour of the United State in West Virginia on Friday. Their tour takes in venues on the East Coast - New York, Massachusetts and Maine, Chicago and the Milwaukee Irish Festival and included performances with Ry Cavanaugh as well as The Foxhunt.

A delighted Lorna McLaughlin told the Democrat: “We’re really excited about returning to the USA this summer. Last year was our first time to tour out there and it couldn’t have been a nicer experience. The Milwaukee Irish Festival was incredible, it’s wonderful to see Irish Culture being celebrated like that and on such a grand scale. There is a such an appreciation for Irish arts and music in the States, with so many there proudly claiming Irish heritage too.

“This year we’re not only returning to the places we played last year (Chicago, Milwaukee and West Virginia) but we’re delighted to be adding in Boston, New York and Portland (Maine) to our schedule. There are so many people here in Inishowen with relatives and friends in the states, particularly Boston and New York, so we’re hoping to see a few familiar faces at the gigs. We’re getting some support from Culture Ireland for our trip so in a way we are representing our country...and we couldnt be more proud to be from Inishowen.

“We’re delighted that we will be joined by our friends The Fox Hunt from West Virginia for our shows in Milwaukee and Chicago. We did a collaboration with them in 2010 for the Earagail Arts Festival and its been a great success for us, with a performance on the legendary radio show “Mountain Stage” (West Virginia) on NPR last year and also a slot at Celtic Connections in 2011. It’ll be great to get playing music with them again, there is such similarity between bluegrass and Irish Music and its a fun collaboration.

“We’re also really looking forward to playing with Ry Cavanaugh again - he’s a fabulous singer songwriter.”
