Gods shine on Ballyshannon

Even though ‘Aqua’ and a seafaring voyage was very much the theme for the annual spectacle that is Carnival Ballyshannon, the gods very much shone on Ballyshannon with the threatening rain dissipating into the night time skies.
On our way to catch up with Sam Maguire in Bundoran it was a great opportunity to stop and take in the great atmosphere of the Blue Stacks Carnival which never fails to impress.
All the rehearsals and workshops, and the costume making which have been ongoing since late August all came to fruition last Saturday evening as the final touches were added in the Mercy Hall before the Carnival Parade started to weave its way through the thronged streets of the Erneside Town.
The annual Donegal Bay and Blue Stacks Festival Carnival Parade, ‘The Voyage of Bran’, transformed the streets of Ballyshannon into a riot of colour, sounds, spectacle and exuberance on Saturday night as thousands of both adults and children alike took it all in.
See today’s Donegal Democrat for full report and 2 pages of pictures from the Carnival.
