There’s so much happening right across the county and beyond this weekend - with the Mary From Dungloe Festival, Donegal v Kerry in the Quarter Finals, and much more - and what better way to round off the weekend than with a visit to the Ballintra Races on Monday?

This immensely popular event has grown and grown since its return eleven years ago. Thousands of spectators, fashionistas and fun seekers will make their way to the transformed farming fields for fantastic racing and family fun.

The Ballintra Races is now recognised as one of the best amateur flat race meetings in Ireland and second only to the Dingle Races in County Kerry.

This year’s event promises to be a bumper day out with the racing starting at 2.30pm, featuring the best horses and jockeys from across the North West and beyond, as well as a 15-hand pony race, all competing for an impressive 8,000 euro in prize money. There will be six races in total, all with local sponsors and bookie stalls to place a flutter on the horse you fancy.

Glamour and the latest fashions are sure to accompany the excitement of the races with a prize and the attention of the local paparazzi for Best Dressed ladies on the day.

And there’s plenty of fun for the kiddies, with bouncy castles, Copany Rovers penalty kick competition, and more. Naomh Bríd’s Bord na Nóg will be on hand to provide refreshments as well.

Admission is 10 euro for adults while children are free. All proceeds go back into local charitable projects in the community.
