This year Donegal gained fame and an international reputation with the unprecedented display of multi - coloured skies and stars as the Northern Lights appeared night after night over our skies.

Over the last number of weeks we have been privileged to experience the wealth of talent and without doubt, future stars that have been appearing in Harvey’s Point “Search for a Star” proving that even when thing are not great financially we can still enjoy a great song and dance.

Once again acts from all over the county and much further afield assembled at the luxury hotel and rehearsed throughout the afternoon under the watchful eyes of Noel Cunningham, Jodie Gallagher, Margaret Carr Flynn and Eugene Ginty.

In the last month we have seen two Ballyshannon councillors competing for this elusive title which includes a contract at Harvey’s Point World Famous Summer Cabaret.

One wonders do they know more about the possible disbandment or amalgamation to the Town Councils which has been featuring recently in the news! One way or another both the lads showed that they have a great sense of enjoyment outside their political lives and both did Ballyshannon proud.

Once again Ballintra’s latest sensation Diarmaid McGee sang his way through to the finals along with Niall from Magherafelt, Graham Reddington from Dungloe and the ever popular McNeilis/Cunningham School of Dance with their World Champion Dancer, Gerard Byrne from Ballydevitt.

Noel Cunningham told the Donegal Democrat, “The competition has been a superb success - the biggest problem has been eliminating people. Each and every participant has been great. I know now how they feel on The Voice - maybe I shall be able to recruit some of these for TV3 !”

The finals of “Search for a Star” take place next Friday night in Harvey’s Point and guests are advised to get their early as a truly great night of entertainment is guaranteed.
