Remembrances, a new play from Jonathan Burgess, will be peformed at The Alley, Strabane this Saturday and The Balor Arts Centre, Ballybofey on Friday week.

‘Remembrances’, a new play by Jonathan Burgess, is the result of a partnership between the Balor DCA, Ballybofey and The Alley Theatre, Strabane.

The cross-border project to remember our shared past is supported by the IFI. It culminates in performances at The Alley this Saturday, February 18 at 8pm and on Friday next, February 24 at the Balor Arts Centre at 8.30pm.

On Remembrance Sunday in 1938, four men gather in a bar in Donegal. All have their own reasons. All have their own story. As Europe stands on the brink of a potential second ‘Great War’ in 25 years, the fires of old conflicts, both foreign and domestic, are still burning. What was promised? What was achieved? What was won? What was sacrificed? This day will answer some of those questions, but may also create others.

‘Remembrances’ looks at the lasting legacy of the First World War in Ireland North and South, and the civil unrest that went before and followed this seismic event on the world stage.

‘Remembrances’ is written by celebrated playwright Jonathan Burgess, author of ‘The Exodus’, ‘Far Off Fields’ and ‘The Parting’, and directed by Kieran Quinn.

The cast features a range of talented actors including: Stephen Bradley who has appeared in the award-winning historical drama The Tudors; Kevin Gallagher, who has worked closely with the Balor Theatre, playing many major roles in classic productions such as ‘The Playboy of the Western World’ and ‘Philadelphia, Here I Come’; Jack Quinn, who has worked with theatre companies such as Tinderbox and Big Telly; Cathleen Bradley who has appeared on BBC’s ‘Eureka Street’, ‘Silent Grace’ and RTE’s ‘On Home Ground’; and Keith Lynch, who has made a name for himself in his hometown of Derry, predominantly within musical theatre in roles in ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘The Music Makers’.
