Hilarious comedy is The Real McCoy at An Grianan

A brand new 3-act Irish play that hits the stage of An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny next week promises to have you in tears of laughter.

“It’s The Real McCoy” was written by radio broadcaster Tommy Marren and premiered in Mayo last January. It will be staged at An Grianan on Saturday night October 20 at 8.pm.

To date over 50 performances have been staged at venues throughout Connacht as well as a trip to Chicago and the company are eagerly looking forward to bringing the play to Letterkenny next week.

“It’s The Real McCoy” is a rip-roaring play that is set in rural Ireland in 1964. The action takes place over two days in the kitchen of Madge Molloy who has lived over four decades of her life wondering why her husband Tom – whom she was married to for a mere four months – simply vanished. Madge was left to rear her only child Maura whom she was expecting at the time of Tom’s disappearance and she has become bitter and resentful of men in general.

However, the arrival of a new curate of the parish is about to throw some light on the circumstances behind Tom Molloy’s disappearance and his wish to come back and explain to Madge why he left in such a hurry.

There are a series of sub-plots to add further spice to the mix and with two love-stories, a gormless postman, Ireland’s two nosiest neighbours, a confused curate and a frightened husband, it has all the ingredients for a highly-entertaining evening of theatre.

It’s a show that is appealing to young and old and, with classic one-liners and a plot that will keep you guessing right to the last scene, this is a must-see show.

Tickets are now on sale at An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny on 074 912 0777 or www.angrianan.com.
