Next Thursday night, the 6th December at 8pm in Donegal Town’s Abbey Hotel,

The popular Abbey Singers stage their annual Christmas Concert, along with guest artistes, next Thursday night, December 6, at 8pm in the Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town.

Rumours are circulating that this maybe the ‘Final Farewell Concert’ for one guest group. The Donegal Town based ‘Hayseeds Skiffle’ band was formed in 1956 when this type of music based on folk/blues of the 1920’s African/American culture was all the rage in the UK and Ireland, utilising homemade or improvising percussion instruments such as teachest bass, washboard, comb/paper kazoo combined with acoustic guitar.

Scotsman Lonnie Donegan was the forerunner in the UK of this unique music with hits like ‘My Old Man’s A Dustman’, ‘Worried Man’. Over its 56 years in existence, the group’s line-up which has changed from time to time, has been involved in many charitable fundraising events. So when Ian McGowan, Patsy O’Sullivan, Pauric O’Sullivan, Billy McLean and Meehan’s Muses along with the only original member Paddy O’Donnell and still playing in the group step on stage, it will no doubt be an enjoyable evening kicking off the Christmas season.

All proceeds to the Donegal branch of the Alzheimer Association.
