Síle McGlinchey: The sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Síle McGlinchey, which occurred at her residence in Navenney, Ballybofey on Thursday night of last week caused widespread regret and sadness in both Ballybofey and Gaoth Dobhair regions. The de
ceased, who was aged in her sixties, and a former national school teacher, was born on Gola Island off the Gaoth Dobhair coastline. A daughter of the late Frank Éamoinn Thadhaig McGinley and Maggie Jimmy Hiudaí Sheimidh (née Sweeney), Gola Island and Cotteen, Derrybeg, she was the one of a family of six children. She was highly respected as a teacher and this was clearly indicated with the very big turnout of her former pupils who attended both the wake and funeral. She loved talking with people about nearly anything conjuring up story after story relating to the topic at hand. Following her retirement her main past time was gardening and going to bingo sessions. Sile Frank was an outstanding woman, totally devoted to her family and a woman who spoke her mind. There was a very big turnout at both the wake and funeral, with many travelling from Gaoth Dobhair to express their condolences to the bereaved family. Her funeral mass was celebrated at 11am in St. Mary's Church, Sessiagoneill, Ballybofey, and afterwards she was interred in the adjoining cemetery. She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Oisín and Shane; two grandchildren; four brothers, Felix McGinley, (Carrickataskin), Patsy, (Cotteen), Jimmy (England) and Lude (Tadhg) (Magheralosk); one sister, Maureen McGinley, (Cotteen); in-laws; nephews; nieces; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended in their sad loss.
