Tony Duffy: The death occurred recently in Glasgow of Tony Duffy, Ardveen, Crolly. The deceased was aged 92 years at the time of his death. His remains were transferred from Glasgow to the residence of his niece, Mary Duffy in Knockastolar, Bunbeg, for waking. His funeral mass was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Meenaweal and afterwards he was interred in the family plot in Dungloe cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to his nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Road Safety Awareness: The management committee of Ionad Naomh Pádraig Dobhar in conjunction with other community groups, An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority are providing a road safety awareness weekend on the 26 – 27th of February. This weekend will include a series of events/talks/workshops geared towards young and old and will include the Road Safety Interactive 'Shuttle' from the RSA.
Danny Joe Gallagher: The death occurred recently of Danny Joe Gallagher ex. N.T., Bailieborough, Co. Cavan. The deceased who would have celebrated his 82nd birthday this week, was originally from Bunbeg. Born in 'Clady House', Bunbeg, he was one of a family of eleven children and was a son of the late Joe Mhanais Ruiadh Gallagher, Bunbeg and his wife Madgie Bhilly (née Coll), who was originally from Meenderrygamph. A teacher by profession Danny spent most of his teaching career at Ballinamoney national school in Co. Cavan. The high esteem in which he was held was manifested by the large number of his former students and teaching colleagues who travelled to attend his wake and funeral in Gaoth Dobhair. Two priests from Bailieborough were among the celebrants at the funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg. Although he was quiet of nature he was a very witty man with a great sense of humour. He had a great passion for golf and he played at both the Magheragallon golf links and in Bailieborough. His other passions was playing bridge and making crosswords. He was a highly intellectual individual and he will be sadly missed. His remains were transferred from Bailieborough to Gaoth Dobhair on Saturday week last and were moved to the home of his sister in law, Sarah Coyle Gallagher, Knockastolar for waking. His funeral took place to Magheragallon on Monday 8th February, following concelebrated Requiem mass in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg. Predeceased by his sisters, Mary Whelan, (Ardara), Nellie Arnold, (Bunbeg), Tessie Gallagher,(Bunbeg), Annie Greene, (Dungloe), and Bridie Hayward,( Bunbeg), and his brothers, Manus Gallagher, ( Knockastolar), Willie, (England), Tom, (Monaghan) Patrick Joseph (Annagry) , and Jimmy, (Knockastolar), he was the last surviving member of his family. The sympathy of the community is extended to his nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, in laws, and a wide circle of relatives and friends.

Table Quiz: At the weekly Cumann na gCurach table quiz held in Teach Sheáin Óig, Middletown, on Thursday night the senior section was won by a team of Michael Danny Minnie, Dónal Curran, Hugh Boyle and Declán Ó Fearraigh. The novice section was won by a team consisting of: Cliona Barr, Aoife Barr, Eileen Nic Suibhne and Moya Sweeney.
Memorial Walk: The Colm Clancy Memorial Walk will be held in the Glenveagh National Park on Easter Sunday, April 4th. Assembly point is at the car park at 11.30am. The walk is in aid of the Cara Malawi School Project and sponsorship cards are now available in all the business establishments in the area.
Whist Drive: At the whist drive held in Scoil Mhuire, Derrybeg on Monday 8th February, Mary McGinley, Magheraroarty with a score of 176 points won top score prize. First lady's prize with a score of 176 was won by Mary O'Donnell, Croghyboyle, Dungloe and second lady's prize with a score of 169 points was won by Noreen Houston, Gortahork. First gent's prize with a score of 174 points was won by Charlie Gallagher, Gortahork, while second gent's prize with a score of 169 points went to Séamus McGinley, Magheraroarty. Antóin Mac Giolla Bhríde, Mín an Iolair, with 83 points had the highest score in the first half, while Sylvia Morgan, Cotteen with 88 points had the highest score in the second half. The whist will be held again in Scoil Mhuire on Monday night starting at 8.30p.m.
Sponsored Errigal Climb: The third year students in Pobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair are undertaking a sponsored climb of Errigal on Wednesday 24th February. The proceeds from the event will go to the Donegal Hospice. All sponsorships will be greatly appreciated.
Archbishop Lawerence Burke: The death occurred recently of Archbishop Lawerence Burke of Kingston, Jamacia. He was well known in the Gaoth Dobhair area and was a frequent visitor to the parish. He was appointed Bishop of the Bahamas Diocese in 1981, becoming archbishop when the diocese was elevated to tan Archdiocese in 1999. He is survived by three sisters. His funeral mass was celebrated at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston on February, 4th.
Gael X Factor: In the Gael X Factor Competition held in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Páirc Ghnó Ghaoth Dobhair on Friday night the winners were: 1st, Kelly Ní Cheanainn, Club Óige Chríost Rí, Gortahork, 2nd, Banna Ceoil Mhullach Dubh, and 3rd, An Crann Óg, Gaoth Dobhair. The winners will go through now to the national Gael X Factor which will be held in Gaoth Dobhair on March 20th. A total of twenty competitors took part in Friday night's competition.
Irish Wheelchair Association: To celebrate its 50th Anniversary they are holding a Birthday Party in Teach Jack, Glassagh this Friday night starting at 9pm. There will be music, with food and plenty of craic. Everyone is welcome.
