Annabell Gilroy: The death of Mrs. Annabell Gilroy, Carrick, Derrybeg, which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital, on November 16th, sees the passing of a well liked and popular member of the community. Aged 77 years, Annabell, who was born in America, was a daughter of the late Paddy Chonaill Phaidí McGarvey and his wife, Bridget. Her father Paddy, was originally from Inis Oirthear Island, while her mother, Bridget, a member of the McGeady family, was originally from Corveen, Derrybeg. Annabell lived in Scotland for some years, before moving to live in Gaoth Dobhair. She was married to Paddy Gilroy, who was originally from Co. Leitrim. Her passed away in 1967. The very large and representative attendance at the removal of remains, wake and funeral, clearly indicated the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Her funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on November 18th. The main celebrant of the requiem Mass was Fr. Brian Ó Fearraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Chloichcheann Fhaola, and concelebrant was An Dr. Oirmh. Pádraig Ó Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair. Following the mass she was laid to rest in Magheragallon cemetery in a plot alongside her husband, Paddy. Predeceased by her brothers, Teague and Connie and sisters, Mary and Nóra (who were twins), she was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by her nephews, nieces, and family circle. Her sister in law, Kathleen McGarvey, resides in Carrick. Her month's mind mass was celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on Wednesday December 18th.

Whist Drive: At the whist drive held in Scoil Mhuire, Derrybeg on Monday 7th December, Paddy McGeady, Gortahork with a score of 181 points won top score prize. First lady's prize with a score of 175 points was won by Eibhlín Nic Giolla Chearra, Gortahork, while second lady's prize with a score of 170 points was won by Mary Gallagher, Dungloe. First gent's prize with a score of 177 points was won by Michael Harkin, Gortahork, while second gent's prize with a score of 172 points went to Brian Harkin, also of Gortahork. Geraldine Rushe, Stranacorkra, with 92 points had the highest score in the first half and Kitty Curran, Falcarragh with 87 points had the highest score in the second half.

Table Quiz: At the Cumann na gCurach table quiz held in Teach Sheáin Óig, Middletown on Thursday night the senior section was won by a team of: Séamus Mac Giolla Bhríde, Michael Roarty, Liam Bonnar, and Daithí Roberts. The novice section was won by a team consisting of: Gearóidín Ní Chearnain, Seán Ó Máirtín, Eoin Ó Flathartha, and Tiarnáin Ó Duinneinn.

Month's Mind Masses: The month's mind mass for the late Joe Willie Joe McBride, will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg this Friday at 7pm. The month's mind mass the late Mary Joe Bhilly Callaghan, will be celebrated in the Church of Christ the King, Gortahork this Saturday at 8pm.

Lotto: In the Scoil Bhríde, Meenacladdy lotto draw on December 11th, the numbers drawn were, 3, 5, 6 and 11. Joseph McFadden, Cnoc Fola matched three numbers. In the next draw the jackpot prize will be 1,575 euro.

Bingo: The will be a Monster Christmas bingo held in Ionad Pobail Chnoc Fola this Sunday night starting at 8pm. There will be a grand total of 2,200. The main prize winners at last Sunday night bingo in Cnoc Fola were: 115 euro, Bríd Friel, Lunniagh, the following won 100 euro each, Brid's sister, Maire Gallagher, Factory Road, Derrybeg, Mary Lennon, Knockastolar, Margaret McElynden, Stranacorkra, Annie McGarvey, Brinaleck, Annie O'Donnell, Knockastolar and Kathleen McGee, Meenacladdy.

Agnes Johnston: The death of Mrs. Agnes Johnston, East Kilbride,
Glasgow, which occurred recently caused deep regret in both the Glasgow and Gaoth Dobhair regions. A member of the Boyle family, Magheraclogher, she was affectionately and better known in the locality as Agnes Tim. She spent a considerable part of her life living in Scotland and she was aged 86 years at the time of her death. Her funeral mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, East Kilbride and her interment took place after mass. A Memorial Mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on Friday week last. She is survived by her husband, Walter; two sons; a daughter; three sisters, Mrs. Teresa McGeady, Ard na gCeapairí, Derrybeg, Nellie Roussan, Strand Road, Middletown and Margaret Mellett, Letterkenny, grandchildren, in laws, family circle, relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

Died in Cardiff: The death occurred recently in Cardiff of Miss Sheila McBride, who was originally from Carrick, Derrybeg. Aged 77 years, she was affectionately known locally as Sheila John Phaidí Naois. Although Sheila spent many years living on Wales, she followed with keen interest happenings and developments back home. She is survived by a sister, family circle, relatives and friends. Her remains were transferred from Cardiff to Gaoth Dobhair and were removed immediately to St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg. Her funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on Saturday week last following requiem Mass in St. Mary's Church.
