Bill Knox: The death occurred at his home in Magheraclogher, on October 29th of Mr. Bill Knox. The deceased, who passed away after a short illness, was well known in the locality. Bill was born in Glasgow and was the youngest of four children. At the
tender age of sixteen years he joined the navy and when the war ended he secured a post as a technician with the famous Singer Sowing Machine Company. On leaving this position he was employed as a Sales Representative and he spent most of his working life in this position. He met his future wife, Maggie Thomáis (née Boyle), Magheraclogher in Glasgow, and following their marriage they lived in the Langside district of Glasgow. In the early eighties they left their home in Glasgow and they moved with their daughter, Pauline to live in their newly constructed bungalow in Magheraclogher. There was a very big turn out to his home during the period of wake and again there was a big and representative attendance at the funeral mass. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and concelebrant was An Dr. Oirmh. Pádraig Ó Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by: Amanda Boyle (grand niece in law), Jamie Boyle, (grand nephew in law), Míde Ní Bhaoill (grand niece in law) and Caoilte Ó Baoill (grand nephew in law). St. Mary's Church choir of which he was a member performed throughout the mass, and it was fitting and moving that his favourite hymn, 'Rugged Cross' was sung at the conclusion of his funeral mass. Pre-deceased by his sisters, Isa, Rita and Florence, he is survived by his wife, Maggie Knox; daughter, Pauline McCarthy, (Kildare); son in law, Michael McCarthy; nieces and nephews-in-law of the Boyle family, and his extended family in Glasgow and the United States, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.
