Annie Sharkey: Deeply regretted is the death of Annie Sharkey, Dunán, Dunlewey, which occurred recently at Falcarragh Nursing Unit. Annie spent a considerable part of her life living in Glasgow and in London. A very kind and gentle person, she was highly popular with both young and old alike. She was transferred from Falcarragh to her home in Dunán for waking. The very large and representative attendance at the removal of remains, wake and funeral clearly indicated the high esteem in which she was held. Her death marks the end of an era, she was the last person with the Sharkey surname in Dunán. Her funeral mass was celebrated in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Dunlewey on Tuesday week last and afterwards she was interred in the family plot adjoining the church. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and con celebrant was An Dr. Oirmh. Pádraig Ó Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair. She is survived by her sister, Sheila Sweeney; brother-in-law, John Sweeeney, nephews, nieces, family circle, relatives and friends to all of who deep sympathy is extended.
