Barney was a well liked individual and he liked nothing better than to talk about his time he spent working on large farms in many parts of Scotland. He was highly popular with both young and old alike and he passed away after a very short illness.

There was a large and representative attendance at the removal of remains from hospital to his home in Cnoc Fola. The very large number of people who called to his home during the wake and who also attended the funeral was a very clear indication of the high esteem in which he was held.
