Maggie McGarvey: The death of Mrs. Maggie McGarvey, Bunaniver, which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital on Tuesday, 22 September sees the passing of a well known and respected member of the community. Maggie, who recently celebrated her 96 birthday, was originally from Meenlaragh and was a member of the Herrity family. She moved to live in Bunaniver in 1939 on her marriage to Hugh McGarvey. He was originally from Inis Oirthear Island and he passed away in 1975. In her youth she spent a number of years working in the Lagan Valley. She reared a large family, eight boys and one girl, and she was a dedicated and good wife and mother. She was also a kind and gentle individual and she will be sadly missed. There was a big turnout at the removal of remains, wake and funeral, which clearly demonstrated the high esteem in which she and her family are held. Her funeral took place to Cnoc Fola cemetery on Thursday last following concelebrated requiem Mass in St. Colmcille Church. The main celebrant of the Mass was Fr. Kevin Gillespie, Gaoth Dobhair and Rome and the concelebrants were, Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair, Fr. Seán Ó Gallchóir, P.P., Gortahork and Fr. Pat McGarvey, C.C., Fanavolty.
