Aodh Ruadh GAA club’s Bakery Cup, one of the oldest club local leagues in the country, is over for another year.
The competition dates back to 1957, the first time the Bakery Cup was presented to the winners of the U-14 club league.
It league itself dates back to long before '57, the year in which Milford Bakery donated the cup.

“It was going for years before it became known as the Bakery Cup, after the Milford Bakery, donated the cup,” Jim Kane, the organiser of the tournament said.
Jim played in the competition in the late 1950s.
“It's the same cup and there isn’t a mark on it. It's believed to be one of the oldest club tournaments in the country.
“Pauric McGarrigle was the captain of the first team to win the Bakery Cup and many of the club's great players that went on to play for the county went on to captain teams in the following years.”
This year's final was played on Sunday with the team captained by Eugene Doherty defeating Mark McGlynn's in the final.
In the semi-final Eugene Doherty and his team overcame Shane Brady’s team in a keenly contested last four clash.
Mark McGlynn's team emerged the winners against Senan Rooney's team, in the other semi-final.
Among the other captains who went on play for Donegal were Mickey McLoone (1959), Pauric McShea (1961), Thomas Quinn (1961&‘62), Martin Carney(1964).

1975
All-Ireland winning fullback from 1992, Matt Gallagher was captain of the 1975 Bakery Cup winning team.
Four teams compete in the competition every year and the mixed teams are selected from the club’s U-12 and u-14 panels.
