Away win sends Kilmacrennan top of Donegal League Premier Division

A 4-1 win in Carrickboyle against Gweedore United saw last year's champions Kilmacrennan Celtic go to the top of the Premier Division league table.

The visitors went one up af
ter just a minute when Eddie Doherty headed home. The hosts reacted well and got back on level terms when Darren Ferry drove the ball into the bottom corner.
Kilmacrennan regained their lead on 28 minutes when Eddie Doherty broke the offside trap. United had a good chance to equalise the game on 38 minutes when Johnny Harkin was brought down in the box and referee Packie Coll had no option but to award the penalty. However, the keeper saved the spot kick taken by Fionnan Diver. In the second half Kilmacrennan added goals from Gary Gorman and Mickey McLaughlin. Eddie Doherty played well for Kilmacrennan with Fionnan Diver and Ciaran O'Brien playing well for United.

Glenea United 0
Glenea were left to rue first half missed chances as Lifford proved more clinical in front of goal to take the spoils at Green Brae. Lifford slowly crept into the game and got their noses in front with their first meaningful attack. James Connolly was upended in the box after good build up play and Damian Patton continued his recent record with the successful spot-kick. The home side started the brighter in the second period and further extended their lead when Jude Patton atoned for his earlier miss to score from close range after Connolly hit the bar. Best for Lifford was John Doherty and Steve Devine with Ciaran Mc Fadden and Paul Sweeney best for Glenea.

Own goal, J Armstrong (2)
Dunlewey Celtic failed to clear their lines and a clearance resulted in rebound of a fellow player and into the net, before Andrew Mackey played a sweet ball into Jason Armstrong who turned the defence and ran on to score number two for Dunkineely. Tommy Rodgers side-stepped two players and scored a cracker of a goal to give hope to the home side. But that was short lived whenArmstrong popped up again to score this second of the game.

Drumoghill Celtic 2

Drumoghill Celtic continued their decent form of late with a 2-0 away win at Eany Celtic.
The away team made the breakthrough with a goal from Liam O'Donnell, which struck from the edge of the box on 35 minutes. With the home side pressing for the equaliser Drumoghill got their second goal against the run of play when O Donnell latched onto a long clearance and netted his second in the 80th minute. Best for Drumoghill Gary Carr and Shane McIntyre.

Gweedore took the lead after two minutes when Paul Curran fired a free kick from the edge of the box into the roof of the net. Milford created a couple of chances in the first half with David Curley missing a good one on one with the keeper and half chances falling to Gary Merritt and Pauric Curley. Gweedore scored early in the second half when Eugene McBride found himself free in the box from a corner kick to head home. Best for Gweedore were Colin Ferry and Paul Curran.

In-form Cappry Rovers won their forth game on the trot when they came through by the odd goal in three at Copany. And it was the visitors who took the lead five minutes before half time through a Kevin McGlynn volley from a long throw, before David Graham got the home side back
on level terms with a fine left footed finish. Both sides continued to create chances with Darragh Brogan and Ryan Kerrigan having good efforts saved, but it was Cappry who got the all important goal from a Darren O'Leary free-kick.

Ballybofey came away from Central Park with all three points after a scrappy affair that puts Keadue back into relegation trouble. The away side went ahead when Ryan Carlin held off a defender well before firing low into the corner. Keadue equalised a minute before the break when Paul McGarvey from a few yards out. The home side did start to get on top after that but no real chances were made. Ballybofey were content to hit on the break and after 77 minutes and a hesitant defence allowed Kieran Doherty to head home for the winning goal.

Bonagee gained a valuable point in their quest for safety, after coming from behind to grab a share of the spoils at Dry Arch Park.
Bonagee took the lead after sixty seconds when Gerard McGuinness tucked the ball into the far corner. The Killybegs men drew level in the 37th minute, when hesitation in the home defence let David Conwell score. St Catherines took the lead in the 60th minute when a long ball into the box evaded everyone except Andrew Mullin, whose header went past the helpless Roy Duffy. Chris Moran provided from the left, and Shane Barclay flicked as far as Damien McClafferty, who toe-poked home from six yards. Bonagee gave debuts to youth players Darren Hunter and Kevin Doran. Best for Bonagee were Mark Hunter and Lee O'Connell, Michael Mullin and David Conwell playing well for St Catherine's.

League leaders Curragh broke their deadlock on the 33rd minute when Mark Doherty was played through by Kevin Rafferty and he finished well giving Mark McConigley no chance.
Kerrykeel kept pressurising and drew level on the 71st minute when Kevin Loughrey's corner was met by Cathal Martin who headed home into the top corner, making a well deserved equaliser.
Best for Kerrykeel were Tony McBride, Sean Callaghan and Patrick McConigley. Mark Doherty, Kevin Raffery and Brendan McNamara did well for Curragh.

Whitestrand United 0
After a scoreless first half, Glenree upped the ante and their positivity paid dividends when Marty McLaughlin fired home a volley in the 55th minute. Damien Coyle doubled the home side's advantage with an expertly taken free kick that caught the keeper napping and McLaughlin wrapped things up slotting home a loose ball in the box for his11th goal of the season. Best for Glenree were Hughie Bradley, Daniel McGroddy and Marty McLaughlin.

Raphoe Town 0
Arranmore United 3

Raphoe Town turned in their worst performance of the season against a battling Arranmore outfit at Deele College on Sunday and paid the penalty when they were duly hammered 3-0.
They fell behind in the 22nd minute when Thomas Brennan slid the ball past Paul Carbery. The home 'keeper pulled off a great save in the 36th minute only to see Brendan Brennan pounce on the rebound to hamer home for a 2-0 lead. Things got worse for Raphoe in the 52nd minute when Martin Brennan poked in.

Drumbar that went away with the points from their game at Fintown Harps. Mark Dorrian who put Drumbar ahead with a 15th minute penalty before Tommy Diver made it 2-0. Fintown were rewarded with 15 minutes left when Dara Gallagher lobbed the keeper but the celebrations were short-lived as Drumbar's Mark Dorrian got another goal in the final minutes of the game.

Glencar Celtic 5

Glencar Celtic completed an easy away win against Ramelton Mariners thanks to Shane Hilley and Paddy Rafferty. Hilley netted a first-half hat-trick for the visitors before Rafferty sealed the win with two goals in the last 20 minutes.

Just before half time Castlefin took the lead against the run of play when Eddie McGranaghan headed home a Dominic McGlinchey corner and they extended their lead in the 78th minute when Darragh Crossan slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. In stoppage time, Cranford got a consolation goal when Paddy Shields scored. Best for Castlefin were Peter Bryson and Dominic McGlinchey, while Charlie Doherty and Eddie Doherty did well for Cranford.

Kilmacrennan Celtic's Sean Sandilands bagged an 85th minute penalty to earn his side a battling 2-2 draw at Magheragallon against Gweedore Celtic. Gweedores Eamonn Doogan broke the deadlock when Cathal Campbell teed him up, but the visitors were on level terms soon after the break when Johnny Neilis fired in an unstoppable shot from 20 yards. Gweedore, who played the final half hour with 10 men after John Sweeney went off injured and all their subs were used, took a deserved lead on 80 minutes when Joe Boner broke and slotted home.

Dunfanaghy almost got the two-goal clear advantage they needed to top the group but in the end they just couldn't get the decisive goal. Dunfanaghy started the game with great intensity but fell behind when Brian Murphy beat the offside trap and easily scored into the corner. Roland Black's flick-on in the 50th minute was met by Ronan McElhinney's volley and the ball sailed into the top corner. Two minutes later after numerous shots and a brilliant save by the Downtown keeper, Damien Nelis managed to wriggle past a Downtown defender and score to make it 2-1. Best for Dunfanaghy were Patrick Toye and Stephen Doak.

Donegal Town Reserves 0

In this last group stage match in the Downtown Cup, Gweedore Untd claimed all three points thanks to two second half strikes from Ciaran Mc Fadden and Edward Muldowney. United went one up on 46 minutes when McFadden drove low into the visitors' net. On 62 minutes Keith Sweeney put Muldowney through and he rounded Sean Martin to seal the victory for the home side. Muldowney and Sweeney played well for United with Alan Kelly and David Bustard doing well for Donegal.
