Fianna Fail Senator Brian " Domhnaill said he was "extremely dissatisfied" with the manner in which reports of possible job losses at Letterkenny General Hospital were handled.
Insisting that frontline services at the facility had to be protected, the Falcarragh based representative maintained he would be liaising directly with the Minister for Health on the issue.
“I am extremely dissatisfied at the manner in which repo
rts of possible job losses at Letterkenny General is being handled. Frontline services at Letterkenny General are critically important to the provision of essential health services to the people in Donegal.
“Letterkenny General Hospital is a 340 bed hospital, and provides a wide range of acute hospital services on an in-patient, day-case and out-patient basis. The hospital catchment area incorporates patients residing in Donegal North of Laghey/Pettigo with a population of 140,000.”
Stating that the hospital currently had a total of 340 in-patients beds and 18 day care beds, Senator Ó Domhnaill disclosed he had been in touch with management at Letterkenny General and was awaiting clarification on what proposals were being put forward.
“I will be also liaising directly with the Minister for Health on this issue and will be doing everything possible to ensure that the essential services at Letterkenny General Hospital are protected.”
