The number of head shops in the county has mushroomed in recent months, becoming the focus of adverse media speculation and the target of criminals.
Last weekend, over €1,000 worth of legal drugs was taken from an adult shop in Letterkenny. The incident occurred on Letterkenny’s Pearse Road at some point between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Gardaí were called when it was realised that a front window had been smashed, allowing thieves entry to the building.

It is understood that a sum of cash was also taken in the raid, along with a number of other items.

The incident happened a number of weeks after two similar robberies in the Donegal Town area. Gardaí in Donegal Town have arrested one person in relation to the first robbery and a file is being prepared and sent to the DPP in relation to it. Two more people have been arrested in relation to the most recent robbery in Donegal Town and a file is also being prepared to be sent to the DPP.

There are two head shops in Donegal Town, two in Letterkenny and one in Ballybofey. A public meeting which will address these issues and other related issues will take place in the Central Hotel at 8 pm tonight.
