Ivan Simms of Court, Milford, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving without due care and attention when he appeared at Tuesday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

Evidence was given by Garda Dowds who said he had been travelling in an unmarked patrol car when he observed a white Toyota Corolla twin cam accelerate onto the roundabout at Knocknamona on November 16th last. Defendant had undertaken two fish-tail manoeuvres on the roundabout, witness maintained.

“Why would he wish to fish-tail on a roundabout?,” asked Judge Hughes who described it as “blatant act” of dangerous driving.

“There is too much blackguardism on the roads in Donegal and I’m not going to tolerate it,” he insisted.

Defendant, who had no previous convictions and was described as having a “completely clean record”, was fined 500 euro, had his licence endorsed and was disqualified from driving for two months.

Recognizances were fixed in the event of an appeal.
