Pettigo’s Bright Sparks shine in summer showcase!
Borderline Players Pettigo has drawn widespread acclaim recently following the first run of the comedy ‘Cash on Delivery’ but this Friday, August 31, it is the turn of the group’s young members to take the stage in what the group is billing as a real end of summer show-case featuring music, drama and dance.
Brightsparks - an evening of music, drama and dance - will take place at 8pm in the Methodist Youth Hall, Tullyhommon. Admission is free however but donations in aid of St Mary’s NSS Pettigo will be much appreciated.
Producer, director and drama teacher Siobhan O’Brien, along with assistant directors Frances McGloin, Nicole Beaumont and Joe Walsh, have put together an exciting evening of performances.
Siobhan says the show offers the perfect opportunity for local people to see how talented the younger members of the group really are. She adds: “Over the past year or two with the focus very much having been on the adult members of the group, it it is important to have the children take centre stage once again. Many of the children and teenagers taking part in this Friday’s performance took part in the group’s recent pantomime, while some others have joined just in the past few weeks.”
In addition to the stage show, Borderline Players have also over the past few weeks been offering young people the opportunity to submit short films as part of the inaugural Screen Shot film festival. The films will also be shown on Friday night as well and a range of awards will be presented in a number of categories.
This weekend also marks the end of a huge chapter in the Borderline Players’ history as Pettigo Community Centre will be this weekend by handed over to contractors ahead of work beginning on the Termon Project in the coming weeks/ The group has had a hectic time recently moving costumes, sets, props, lighting and sound equipment to a number of other locations in the community until their new home is ready in 2014.
On top of all that, the adult group members are taking to the road this September for the final run of ‘Cash on Delivery ‘. They’ll perform at the Abbey Centre Ballyshannon on Saturday, September 15; the Patrician Hall Carrickmore, Co. Tyrone on Thursday, September 20; and will close this year’s Big Tickle Comedy Festival in the Playhouse, Derry on Saturday, September 29.
Brightsparks and ScreenShot film festival are supported by Peace III programme managed by the Special EU Programmes body by Donegal County Council in association with ADoPT. Borderline Players would like to thank the staff and directors of ADoPT for the ongoing support and assistance with both projects. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org
