Opening of St Shanaghan House, Ardara

St Shanaghan House, a beautiful building of apartments and facilities for older people, surrounded by landscaped gardens, was officially blessed and opened in Ardara on Monday, October 8. A crowd of several hundred attended the occasion.
The Blessing was made by the Rev Canon A. Laverty, Rev John Deane and Rev John Purdy, followed by brief speeches by Jimmy O’Donnell (chairman of Ardara Sheltered Housing Association), Minister Dinny McGinley, and Cllr. Terence Slowey. Senator Brian O’Domhnaill, Cllr. Thomas Pringle, and Cllr. David Alcorn were also in attendance, as was Mr Jimmy Devenney, representative of Western Development.
Officially opening the building were the residents of the house, represented by Mrs K. Boyle, the first person to move in, who cut the ribbon. The crowd then moved into the communal sitting room and dining room for afternoon tea. Two apartments, the prayer room and public sections of the building were available for viewing
