New community network for Donegal and Tyrone
Groups in east Donegal and west Tyrone are being encouraged to look at options for improving their villages and communities.
The Foyle and Tinn Rural Network has been set up as part of the River links Project, Interreg funded project which has received funding of more than two million euro for the area.
The project is being led by Donegal County Council along with Strabane District Council and Ballybofey and Stranorlar Integrated Community Company (Basicc).
The project will provide part funding for the building of a community enterprise centre in Stranorlar; the development of a walk way in Clady and Doneyloop along with improvements at Clady bridge and in the village and a tourism and recreation project along the Strabane canal.
The network is the fourth strand of the River Links project and aims to bring together groups in the area to share experiences and explore opportunities for collaborative initiatives. While there is no funding available for groups through the network, membership is free and participants will be able to avail of professional facilitation.
The network will be exploring economic development, tourism product development, village renewal and information computer technology (ICT) as an economic driver.
Martin McAndrew project manager of River Links, said the network will provide an opportunity for communities to see what other groups have achieved. “It’s a great opportunity for groups to take stock and to look ahead and also create links with other groups that are experiencing the same challenges,” he said.
