Saturday, October 27th is the date for this year’s ‘Kilometres for Kids’ walk at The Mall Park, Ballyshannon.

This walk was organised last year for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Ronald McDonald House and Sligo General Paediatric Ward and was a fantastic success. From the boy who walked 50 laps to the men who braved those red high heels – it was a day to remember! And not forgetting the sun that shone all afternoon.

Last year the aim was to get up to 200 children out walking 2,540 laps of the Mall Park in under 4 hours. “Ambitious!”, “Next to impossible!”, were some of the reactions, but thanks to the support of local families and schools over 330 children came out and walked 1,300 km (3,300 laps) and raised €4,672 in the process. The three charities were delighted to get this money which was used to fund play and medical equipment for children in hospital and Ronald McDonald put all donations towards supporting families who need their accommodation while their child is in hospital.

In 2011 the organisers wanted ‘children walking for children’. This year they want to get the children out again but they would also be delighted to welcome adults to join in as well. Monies raised this year are being donated to Our Lady’s Children Hospital, Crumlin and Barnardo’s.

Barnardo’s organise their National Dress Up Campaign for Halloween so it would be great to see people coming along in their Halloween costumes.

The walk will commence at 12 noon and finish up at 4pm. A donation of €3 per person or €10 per family will be greatly appreciated. Everyone who walks on the day will be entered in a special draw.

A raffle will be held in conjunction with this walk and tickets will be on sale in local shops. The big prize this year is a signed Donegal jersey.
