It’s very easy to be praiseworthy and to write something good about something when it’s true and the Mayor’s Ball at Harvey’s Point last weekend ticked all those important boxes - it simply was the highlight of the social calendar in Donegal Town.

When Tom Conaghan quietly announced the date for this year’s Mayor’s Ball in the ‘notes’ section of this newspaper without any fanfare or major investment in advertising one wondered if he would succeed in getting the message out there.

Such is the popularity of this man, not only in his native town of Donegal, that tickets were practically sold out overnight with a large waiting list emerging within days.

The venue was Harvey’s Point which is synonymous with great food and a very personal service and last Friday evening almost 400 guests turned up to support Tom and Celine.
