Come along to 19th Ballyshannon Agricultural Show this Sunday
One of the highlights of the summer show schedule, the Ballyshannon Agricultural Show, takes place this Sunday, August 19.
The hugely successful annual event, which is now in its 19th year, is organised by Ballyshannon Annual Show Ltd. and takes place in Tunney’s Field on the Donegal Road.
The show provides a display platform for the best in North West of cattle, sheep, dogs, horses, ponies, poultry, home industries and arts & crafts.
An impressive range of prize cups are up for taking in this year’s show including, in the cattle section, the Macra Na Feirme Cup, the Creevy Pier Hotel Perpetual Cup and The Robert Pye Memorial Cup, the Ballyshannon Show Cup award to the best Non-Pedigree Animal of Show in the cattle section and the Smyth’s Daleside Feeds Plaque Best Pedigree Animal of the Show in the cattle section. The Show Society also has the great honour in being able to present The Atkinson Cup each year to the exhibitor with the highest number points overall in the cattle section. This cup was donated to the Show Society in 1954 by the Atkinson Family of the Cavangarden Estate. Judging in the cattle section is from 11am.
Top awards in the sheep section, with judging from 1pm include the Magee Challenge Cup awarded to the Champion Sheep of Show and the Frank O’Kelly Memorial Cup awarded to the Champion Blackface Sheep of Show.

Meanwhile in the marquee, there is the O’Donnell Bakery Cup, the Vegetable Plate and the Ferguson Cup, with judging from 11am.
The Ballyshannon Agricultural Show always provides a complete family fun day out and this year will be no different. The line-up of entertainment from 2pm includes Free Bouncy Castle, Free Mini Quads, Free Gladiator Duel, Free Face Painting, and Free Novelty Events for the kids and Pet’s Corner.
A new addition to this year’s show is Live Music and Dancing in the show field from 3pm – 5pm with Shaun Loughrey and Band providing the entertainment. In addition there will be a display of vintage tractors at the show grounds. Once again this year, the show committee is delighted to have the services of Gerry Singer to provide the show day with great entertainment throughout the day and keep everybody up to date with all the events as they happen.
For all those Bonny Babies out there, there is a Bonny Baby Competition at 2pm, entries taken on the day.
This year’s Show Dance will be held on Saturday, August 25 in Dorrian’s Imperial Hotel, with music by ‘It’s All About September’. Doors open at 10pm with music from 11pm to 1am.
This year, a competition was run among the local schools to come up with a poster design for the show. There were some great designs and the winner was Megan Davitt from Creevy National School.
In these challenging times, the organisers would like to thank all the sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers for their continued support, without which it would not be possible to run the show.
