HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY! Christina Carr recently celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by family and friends at Donegal Community Hospital. Five generations are pictured here - Christina, her daughter Theresa Donnelly, granddaughter Laureen McGarr, great grandson Paul McGarr and great-great granddaughter Aimee McGarr.

Christina Carr, née Crawford, from Tullycullion, Donegal Town, recently celebrated her 100th birthday, in the company of family and friends, at Donegal Town Coummunity Hospital.

Born in 1912, Christina witnessed countless changes and historic times. She spent most of her life in Donegal Town but always recalled with great fondness the times she visited with her daughter Theresa and her family in Glasgow, as well as her daughter Bernadette and her family in Chicago.

Christina has always been devoted to family and for many, many years, looked after her parents Susan and David Crawford, who was the pilot for Donegal harbour.

At the age of 20, in 1932, Christina married James Carr from Tawnawilly, a stonemason who laid the foundations for St Patrick’s Church in Donegal Town.

The couple had five children - Patricia, Frances (deceased), Theresa, Laurence and Bernadette.

Christina will be known to many for her wonderful embroidery and her great love of music. She played the piano, the violin and the piano accordion for friends and family and always loved to dance.

Her brother David, to whom Christina was very devoted, passed away in the 1980s.

Christina’s family, including many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even her great-great granddaughter Aimee, were on hand to share in the celebrations as she marked her 100th birthday on November 29.

“The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Donegal Community Hospital for their wonderful care of Christina and for making her feel so at home here,” Theresa said.
